Leinfelden-Echterdingen - Daimler Truck has introduced the LibreChat artificial intelligence platform: The open-source solution is available to all employees worldwide. Daimler Truck is thus taking an independent, forward-looking path in the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). As one of the first DAX 40 companies, the commercial vehicle manufacturer is pursuing an AI strategy that also relies on important open-source technologies. An application such as LibreChat is continuously developed using in-house expertise, with all enhancements made available to the community.

LibreChat is an AI platform that makes use of various language models such as GPT, Claude or image generation assistants such as DALL·E. Employees can also create individual agents and chatbots and share them with other colleagues.

Andrea Seidel, Head of IT Transformation at Daimler Truck: “With LibreChat, we are breaking new ground and creating enterprise-wide access to artificial intelligence. AI and its innovative power can now be experienced by all our employees at Daimler Truck. I am firmly convinced that AI is the key to sustainable transformation in the world of work and opens up new perspectives for us to actively shape the future of our company. Thanks to LibreChat's open-source approach, we are working together with developers worldwide on a platform that gives our employees access to AI without being dependent on individual companies – thereby strengthening our organization's innovation potential in the long term.”

Daimler Truck also offers its employees AI applications from other providers while not relying solely on ready-made complete AI solutions. By using LibreChat, the company is strengthening its technological independence and controlling the platforms’ further development. This enables targeted adaptation to internal and external requirements, ensuring a transparent and efficient cost structure, and guarantees compliance with regulations and safety standards. Thanks to open-source integration, both the company and the global open-source community benefit from joint development.

Daimler Truck and the General Works Council are working together to shape the use of AI to balance innovation and co-determination and ensure the responsible use of AI. To this end, a corresponding Group Works Agreement on the use and handling of AI has been adopted. It also includes an agreement for targeted training to actively prepare employees for the use of AI.

Since early 2025, an AI learning initiative has been in place, offered in multiple languages at all Daimler Truck locations worldwide. It gives employees and managers the opportunity to familiarize themselves with AI through dynamic and interactive learning formats and to deepen their understanding with a focus on sparking curiosity with an eye to its potential and responsible application.

The introduction of LibreChat at Daimler Truck is an important step for employees to explore the diverse possibilities of AI responsibly, promote future-oriented solutions, and actively shape technological development within the company. AI applications are already in use throughout the company to take over repetitive tasks either partially or completely and to support employees. LibreChat focuses on the further development of automated workflows and the use of AI agents that can perform a variety of tasks in parallel. During the pilot phase and since the company wide launch, several thousand users at Daimler Truck created and to date integrated more than 3,000 AI agents with a wide range of functions. Further information and examples can be found here.

The enabling technical infrastructure is provided by AWS. The cloud environment enables Daimler Truck to flexible scaling and adapting the platform to changing requirements. For example, a few functionalities were specifically developed and implemented by and for Daimler Truck before the launch, such as a SharePoint Connector. In addition, future innovative AI functions can be integrated quickly, and existing processes can be continuously improved. All AI models are operated by the cloud partner; data and information entered are not passed on to the manufacturers of the AI models.

On AI at Daimler Truck

Daimler Truck aims to scale the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across all areas of the organization. Continuous access to AI tools enables employees to learn, explore and experiment, fostering ideas that generate measurable benefits for business operations, internal teams and customers. LibreChat thereby serves as a key enabler in this process. Its open‑source design makes it accessible and cost‑efficient while demonstrating how much simpler and faster tasks can be tackled in daily work. Moreover, these practical applications can influence approaches to product and service improvements. In parallel, other AI tools will be introduced selectively for engineers and roles where the potential business value is highest, whereas LibreChat will remain available company-wide without restriction.
