Leinfelden-Echterdingen – Omniplus, the service brand of Daimler Buses, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. For three decades, Omniplus has supported bus operators far beyond classic workshop services. Today, the brand offers not only the largest bus‑specific service network in Europe but also a comprehensive portfolio of digital services, battery services, and consulting, installation, and service solutions for depot and H2 infrastructure.
The 30-year anniversary marks a key milestone in the history of the Omniplus brand and simultaneously serves as a starting point for new developments that underscore the company’s clear direction: Daimler Buses is systematically expanding its lead in services and supporting bus operators holistically in the transition to electromobility and digitally connected fleets.
From workshop service to a service ecosystem
What began as classic maintenance and repair has evolved into a comprehensive service ecosystem. When Omniplus was launched in 1996, the brand was based on a simple yet revolutionary idea: bus operators should receive everything they need from a single source. With its own service centers, a Europe‑wide network, service and driver trainings, and a unified ServiceCard, Omniplus set new standards in bus service.
Today, Omniplus operates 36 of its own service centers across Europe, with more in planning or construction. The full network comprises more than 600 service locations, over 130 of which are certified eBus sites. Here, qualified high‑voltage experts work on components using specialized infrastructure such as overhead gantries and battery cranes. Bus operators benefit from short distances, high availability, and service precisely tailored to the needs of modern bus fleets. Ten locations are also certified for fuel cell buses.
In recent years, Omniplus has increasingly transformed itself — from traditional vehicle service into a fully integrated service platform combining parts and service solutions, digitalization, electromobility, and sustainable infrastructure.
Spare parts from Omniplus, digital and in 3D: faster parts identification
The Omniplus eShop provides round‑the‑clock access to the complete spare parts portfolio for Mercedes‑Benz and Setra buses. The system recognizes each operator’s fleet and displays the correct parts in multiple areas of the shop. New features — such as saved shopping lists — help customers and workshop staff identify parts faster, shorten repair times, and increase fleet availability. For major customers, the eProcurement feature is particularly significant: the eShop can be integrated directly into the operator’s ERP system so that orders can be placed seamlessly without system breaks.
3D‑printed spare parts: fast and efficient production on demand
Omniplus has also expanded parts supply with modern manufacturing methods: spare parts can be produced on demand using 3D printing. Operators can purchase licenses for decentralized printing of selected parts. More than 40,000 parts are currently 3D‑printable. This gives operators maximum flexibility, significantly reduces delivery times, and increases vehicle availability.
With the remanufacturing program, Daimler Buses also offers a cost‑efficient and sustainable solution for value‑appropriate repairs, especially for older vehicles. Omniplus Reman original parts meet the highest quality standards while offering strong environmental benefits.
Digital connectivity as the key to uptime: more than 50,000 connected buses
Digitalization is one of the central challenges for bus operators today. Increasing demands for uptime and operational safety, along with the need for precise data to optimize routes and energy consumption, require a connected, data‑driven service environment. With the Omniplus On portal, Daimler Buses has created one of the most comprehensive digital service ecosystems for buses. Fleet managers gain real‑time access to vehicle, diagnostic, and consumption data. Services such as Omniplus On Uptime pro enable full remote diagnostics. Over‑the‑air updates deliver software directly to the vehicle. Data Packages ensure seamless integration with existing fleet management systems — including the ITxPT TiGR standard. Today, more than 50,000 Mercedes‑Benz and Setra buses are connected and continuously provide data for optimized operations.
Battery reconditioning and replacement services extend the service life of the eCitaro – first batteries replaced with new units
Daimler Buses places strong emphasis on battery monitoring to ensure maximum service life. With Omniplus On Battery Monitoring, operators receive detailed data on battery health along with concrete recommendations for preserving performance. An integrated emergency call function alerts operators to critical battery states. In addition, Daimler Buses offers battery reconditioning and replacement services to significantly extend the service life of electric buses and improve cost efficiency. The first customer fleets have already had older battery generations replaced with new units — increasing service life, efficiency, and range without requiring additional installation space.
Omniplus Charge consolidates charging and H2 infrastructure:
Charging‑as‑a‑Service as a new offering
With the new sub‑brand Omniplus Charge, Daimler Buses bundles all services related to charging and H2 infrastructure under the Omniplus umbrella. Experts from Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH advise transport operators, conduct software‑based feasibility studies, design depots, dimension the power supply, and implement complete charging infrastructure projects. If desired, Daimler Buses now also operates the charging infrastructure under a Charging‑as‑a‑Service model. Customers receive the entire eMobility ecosystem from a single source — from analysis to the bus to turnkey infrastructure including service.
Since launch, Omniplus Charge has won more than 60 projects, including Stadtwerke Bonn, HTM in The Hague, VYBuss in Östersund, RVWB in Baden Wettingen, and Geneva. In Lüneburg, Daimler Buses is building the first fully Daimler‑planned e‑bus depot in Europe as part of the MOIN project. Omniplus Charge also handles maintenance and technical operation of the charging infrastructure with its own service technicians — around the clock, seven days a week — raising charging service standards to the well‑known Daimler Buses level.
For monitoring and controlling the charging process, Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH uses the Sinos charging management system. Sinos enables optimized charging in depots and on routes and helps reduce energy costs. Daimler Buses acquired a stake in Sinos in early 2025.
Starting in 2026, Daimler Buses will also install and operate its own public high‑power chargers at high‑traffic tourist locations — the first OEM in Europe to do so. The pilot project in Cologne includes four 400 kW chargers; Munich’s central bus station will receive up to four additional 600 kW chargers. Operators will be able to charge buses of any brand using green electricity.
Additionally, Omniplus Charge offers complete hydrogen infrastructure concepts. Through a strategic partnership with H2 Mobility — Europe’s largest operator of hydrogen refueling stations — operators receive seamless, end‑to‑end solutions.
Expertise on site: training and qualification
Technical innovation becomes truly effective only when the necessary expertise is available. For decades, Omniplus has invested heavily in training for workshop staff and professional drivers. More than 20,000 drivers have completed safety training since 1993; technical trainings, hydrogen courses, and high‑voltage qualifications cover all relevant competence requirements. Over 250,000 workshop employees have participated in Omniplus trainings.
With training centers in Neu‑Ulm, Mannheim, and Dortmund, Omniplus offers modern facilities that support established system and technology trainings as well as specialized high‑voltage and hydrogen programs.
The BusTech Challenge — an international bus service competition with participants from 19 countries — highlights how Omniplus actively fosters and develops workshop expertise.
30 years of experience as the foundation for the next steps
With Omniplus On, Omniplus Charge, battery services, eShop, 3D printing, ERP integration, and a continually growing network of specialized service locations, Omniplus is evolving from a classic workshop partner into a strategic system partner for bus operators across Europe.
Its 30-year anniversary is not a retrospective — it is the launch point for the next stage of the Daimler Buses service universe.
