  • Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia: "Sustainable mobility is the key of our strategy and this collaboration with LC3 Trasporti and Lidl Italia is a concrete example of how we can make a difference. Our eActros 600 is a revolutionary vehicle that marks an important step in the future of logistics, and we are excited to see it in action at Lidl Italia."

Arcole (Italy) – Lidl Italia strengthens its commitment to a responsible supply chain in freight transport: the food retailer is the first company in Italy to accept the new eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz Trucks - a fully electric semitrailer tractor that was specially developed for CO2-free long-distance transport. This is taking place in close cooperation with Daimler Truck Italia and LC3 Trasporti and marks the start of a new chapter for climate-friendly mobility on Italy’s roads.

Italy’s first eActros 600 in the hands of customers is now delivering to Lidl branches in Trentino-South Tyrol and the Lake Garda region during the summer months. The truck is equipped with a nitrogen-cooled semitrailer and thus represents a climate-friendly transport solution for temperature-sensitive goods. The vehicle and semitrailer are also given a special paint finish that visually underlines the partnership between the three partners. LC3 Trasporti, a long-standing pioneer in sustainable logistics, has ordered a total of 30 eActros 600. In cooperation with Daimler Truck Italia and the dealership Rossi Veicoli, LC3 is thus one of the first companies in Europe to rely on a fully electric long-haul fleet - a decisive contribution to the decarbonization of the transport sector.

Luca Ros, Logistics Director at Lidl Italia, commented: "Logistics is a crucial part of our business and making it more sustainable is a must. For this reason, we have been embarking on a journey of gradual decarbonization of transport for years, which is also achieved through the choice of more sustainable means of transport. It is therefore an honor to be the first to use the new all-electric tractor unit in long-haul transport. A big thanks to our partners Daimler Truck Italia and LC3, both driven by our same sustainability values."

Michele Ambrogi, Operations Director of LC3 Trasporti added: "We are very proud to have achieved this new milestone once again with two great partners, such as LIDL and Daimler Truck Italia. Building on these synergies, for over 15 years, we have been tracing a new path for sustainable transport, opening innovations aimed at reducing our environmental impact and harmful emissions more and more overtime, while increasingly meeting the needs of the environment and the most virtuous customers. A challenge we have been facing for a long time, from the introduction of the first LNG-powered tractors, moving from zero-impact refrigeration to nitrogen, to today’s launch of the full-electric, zero-impact long-haul solution, again the first on the Italian market. We are once again proud to pioneer a new solution that accelerates our journey towards a full green transition and greater well-being for the communities in which we operate”.

Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia said: "Sustainable mobility is the key of our strategy and this collaboration with LC3 Trasporti and Lidl Italia is a concrete example of how we can make a difference. Our eActros 600 is a revolutionary vehicle that marks an important step in the future of logistics, and we are excited to see it in action at Lidl Italia."

About the eActros 600

Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the series launch of the eActros 600 at the end of November last year at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth. Deliveries to customers began in December 2024. The electric flagship among Mercedes-Benz Trucks has already proven its capabilities several times under real-life conditions: In customer use and as part of the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024”, a 15,000-kilometer all-electric development trip through a total of 22 countries and the “European Testing Tour Winter 2025” on around 6,500 kilometers through Northern Europe, each with a gross combination mass of 40 tons. In addition, the e-truck was voted “International Truck of the Year 2025”. The award is the most important prize in the industry and is presented annually by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) organization, consisting of 24 commercial vehicle journalists from Europe. The overall technological concept consisting of an electric drive axle and LFP cell technology was decisive for the award.

The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours - hence the model designation 600 – and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house enable the electric truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometers[1] without intermediate charging. This range is accomplished under very realistic and practical conditions with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, which can also be significantly exceeded depending on the driving style and the route. The eActros 600 will even be able to cover well over 1,000 kilometers per day. Intermediate charging during statutory driver breaks makes this possible, provided that charging options are available.

The eActros 600 has three battery packs, each with 207 kWh[2]. These offer an installed total capacity of 621 kWh. The batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate cell technology (LFP) and are characterized by a long service life. In contrast to other battery cell technologies, more than 95 percent of the installed capacity can also be used with LFP technology. This enables a higher range with the same amount of installed battery capacity. The vehicle is technically designed for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons. With a standard semitrailer, the eActros 600 has a payload of around 22 tons in the EU. In some cases, national law may allow a higher payload.

Lidl Italia

Lidl Italia has been a supermarket chain in the country since 1992 and currently has a network of 780 points of sale supplied daily by 12 logistics platforms located in the country, employing a total of around 23,000 employees. The shelf offer consists of more than 3,500 carefully selected references, of which more than 80% are produced in Italy and under our own brand to guarantee the customer the best value for money.

LC3 Trasporti

LC3 has been operating in the transport sector since 2009 using a fleet of more than 250 vehicles to date, 70% of which are fueled by 100% sustainable propulsion, with the remaining part consisting of the latest generation Euro 6D vehicles. This is the synthesis of the INBLUE experience, a project designed to eliminate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. At the same time, since 2019, the LC3 has introduced nitrogen refrigeration to the Italian market, a zero-emission and 100% sustainable system, immediately putting a fleet of 20 cryo semitrailers on the road. The LC3 specializes in temperature-controlled and container transport to and from Italian ports. It can rely on tracking systems for vehicles and goods transported in Italy and abroad. In 2017, LC3 won the “Presidential Medal of the Republic” award for its sustainable vision in freight transport, recognizing its commitment and green journey.
