Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Berlin – At Bus2Bus 2026 from April 15–16 in Berlin, Daimler Buses will showcase comprehensive and sustainable electric mobility solutions for city and intercity buses, along with a current touring coach model. The trade fair, workshop and networking event for the bus industry is held every two years by Messe Berlin with support from the German Bus and Coach Operators Association (bdo) on the exhibition grounds in Berlin.

In Hall 25, Booth 500/501, Daimler Buses will present the new Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro, the manufacturer’s first fully electric intercity bus. In the adjacent outdoor area, visitors can explore the electric articulated city bus eCitaro G and the high-deck touring coach Setra TopClass S 516 HDH.

Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro: Electric mobility for intercity routes and excursion services

The centerpiece of the Daimler Buses exhibit is the new electric intercity bus, the eIntouro. The vehicle is designed for classic intercity routes, school transport and shorter excursions. Based on the well-known diesel-powered Intouro, the eIntouro is equipped with a battery-electric drivetrain featuring lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology and a central motor. With this, Daimler Buses is enabling the transition to electric mobility outside of urban environments for the first time. Two lengths are available: the 12.18-meter eIntouro and the 13.09-meter eIntouro M, accommodating seating configurations from 50 up to a maximum of 63 passengers. For the first time in a European bus, software updates can be installed “over the air” without requiring a workshop visit. The first customer vehicles are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2026.

Efficient LFP battery technology

The new Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro is available with one or two battery packs, each providing 207 kWh (maximum 414 kWh). The 800‑volt LFP batteries offer a high usable capacity of 95 percent and an exceptionally long lifespan of up to 15 years. With two battery packs, the eIntouro can travel up to 500 kilometers[1]Pressrelease without recharging, depending on driving style, topography and weather conditions. Charging is performed via a CCS Type 2 plug with up to 400 kW charging power.

A centrally mounted electric motor provides a continuous output of 320 kW and maximum drive torque of 24,700 Nm. Power is transmitted through an integrated fully automatic three‑speed transmission to the Mercedes‑Benz RO 440 drive axle. High parts commonality with the conventional Intouro ensures excellent economic efficiency.

First-ever “over-the-air” updates

As the first European bus manufacturer, Daimler Buses enables over‑the‑air software updates via mobile networks. Software updates are transmitted to the vehicle and installed without a required workshop visit. Update management is handled through the digital Omniplus On portal. When an update becomes available, fleet managers receive a notification and can authorize updates for individual vehicles. Remote vehicle control or manufacturer-driven autonomous rollout of software is excluded. All access and updates are documented, and all data is protected under strict European data protection and cybersecurity standards.

Design, comfort and safety

Visually, the eIntouro remains true to the Intouro design with a functional exterior and modular interior layout for intercity or excursion service. The 13‑meter version can be equipped with a restroom in front of the rear entrance. A wheelchair lift on the right-hand side is optionally available for both lengths. Modern assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist 6 plus, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist and others form the comprehensive safety package of the new eIntouro.

eCitaro G: Comfortable passenger compartment, long range, exemplary safety

Articulated buses form the backbone of public transit in many major cities and metropolitan areas, especially during peak load times and on heavily frequented city routes. The Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro G displayed in the outdoor area demonstrates what a state-of-the-art, fully electric articulated city bus should offer: innovative drivetrain and energy storage technology, maximum safety, a comfortable passenger compartment, a functional driver’s cockpit and an attractive overall design.

The eCitaro G features a new drive axle with improved electric motors delivering a continuous output of 360 kW and 860 Nm of torque. Six high‑voltage battery packs of the NMC3 generation with a combined capacity of 588 kWh ensure adequate range for the three‑door articulated bus.

Like all articulated buses from Mercedes‑Benz, the eCitaro G is equipped with the Articulation Turntable Controller (ATC), providing optimal handling, high stability and excellent maneuverability. Additional assistance and safety systems include Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPM). A 270° camera system for articulated buses provides essential support during precise maneuvering.

Setra TopClass S 516 HDH: Premium travel at the highest level

The exclusive HDH models of the Setra TopClass redefine premium coach travel. Long‑distance comfort, individualized luxury and technical excellence combine to create an exceptional travel experience. The showcased Setra TopClass S 516 HDH, a three‑axle luxury coach, offers a spacious passenger compartment, generous payload and premium equipment. Its Cosmos Red metallic finish creates a confident exterior impression that continues seamlessly inside: illuminated entryway with brand lettering, wood‑look flooring and luxurious Setra Voyage Ambassador seating upholstered with a multi‑component fabric combination.

Additional premium features include the Coach MediaRouter for internet access, the Coach Infotainment Series multimedia system, electrically folding 21.5‑inch monitors, USB ports and 230‑volt outlets.

The cockpit features a multifunction leather steering wheel, Keyless Start, electronic parking brake with hold function and MirrorCam instead of exterior mirrors, supported by rear maneuvering lighting and a 360° camera system. Numerous industry-leading assistance systems include Active Drive Assist 2 with active steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop‑and‑go function, Active Brake Assist 6, the latest Predictive Powertrain Control, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Attention Assist and TPM.

A powerful yet highly efficient OM 471 engine delivering 375 kW (510 hp), the fully automated GO 250‑8 PowerShift transmission and the RO 440 drive axle are perfectly harmonized for confidence and performance.

Omniplus On: Digital services for greater safety and efficiency

Through the Omniplus On portal, Daimler Buses provides a wide range of digital services—from online remote diagnostics (Uptime and Uptime pro) and location-based services to consumption and driving analysis for both conventional and electric buses. Virtual data interfaces (“Data Packages”) in standardized formats enable integration into customers’ fleet and control systems. Interfaces between Omniplus online spare parts ordering and customer ERP systems further expand the digital ecosystem.

With the new eIntouro, software updates can now be installed over the air for the first time. Remote Control Functions allow precise scheduling of charging and preconditioning—including heating, cooling, ventilation, charge limits and departure management—independent of charging infrastructure. The service increases range, battery lifespan and even enables drive mode adjustments for the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro fuel cell.

Omniplus On Battery Monitoring provides detailed battery condition analysis with actionable recommendations. A new emergency call feature alerts drivers and fleet managers automatically in critical situations. Uptime pro increases vehicle availability and reduces TCO through continuous monitoring and remote diagnostics. Omniplus On monitor evaluates consumption data by drivetrain and auxiliary units, while flexible data packages with up to 350 certified data points allow seamless integration into existing fleet systems—without additional hardware.

To make digital services accessible to as many customers as possible, Daimler Buses is temporarily offering a free Digital Services Package for all newly delivered buses. Buyers of new diesel buses from Mercedes‑Benz and Setra receive three years of free access; buyers of new battery-electric eCitaro, eCitaro fuel cell and eIntouro models receive six years of complimentary access. After expiration, customers can continue services at a reduced package price.

Omniplus Charge consolidates charging and H₂ infrastructure: now with Charging-as-a-Service

Under the new sub-brand Omniplus Charge, Daimler Buses consolidates all charging and hydrogen infrastructure services. Experts from Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH support transit operators by conducting software‑based feasibility studies, planning depots, determining energy requirements and implementing turnkey charging infrastructure projects. Upon request, Daimler Buses can now also operate the charging infrastructure under a Charging-as-a-Service model. Customers receive the entire e‑mobility ecosystem from a single source—from analysis to vehicles to complete infrastructure and service.

Since launching the business unit, Omniplus has secured more than 60 projects. Services extend beyond planning and construction to include full maintenance and operation of charging infrastructure with in-house service technicians—24/7, year-round. This elevates charging infrastructure service quality to the same high level as Daimler Buses vehicles.

Starting in 2026, Daimler Buses will also build and operate public fast-charging stations at high‑traffic tourist locations—becoming the first bus manufacturer in Europe to do so. A pilot project in Cologne includes four 400‑kW fast chargers. At Munich’s central bus station (ZOB), four additional public charging stations with up to 600 kW will be installed. Operators will be able to charge e‑buses of all brands with green electricity.

[1] The range was determined internally under specific conditions, including equipment with maximum battery capacity, the battery in its delivery state, typical intercity bus operation, and moderate weather conditions, and may differ from the values determined in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/2400. The actual range depends on individual vehicle usage, vehicle configuration and additional external factors. As a result, the actual range may be lower or higher than the stated value.
