Setra comes to FIAA 2026 in a particularly significant year for the brand: its 75th anniversary. The history of Setra began in 1951 with the presentation of the S 8, the first self-supporting coach. This model also gave Setra its name, derived from the German term selbsttragend, meaning “self-supporting”, and marked a turning point in European bus and coach manufacturing.

Since then, Setra has evolved through six generations while maintaining an identity built on innovation, quality, comfort, safety, design and profitability. The brand has developed vehicles for a wide variety of applications, from interurban and regional services to premium coaches for long-distance travel, always with a high degree of specialisation and a strong focus on operators’ requirements.

At FIAA 2026, Daimler Buses España is presenting a selection from Setra’s current portfolio, with models from the MultiClass, ComfortClass and TopClass families. This selection reflects the breadth of the brand’s offering: accessible and efficient solutions for interurban services, versatile coaches for tourism and charter operations, and premium vehicles designed to deliver maximum comfort and a high-quality travel experience.

Setra S 515 LE hybrid: accessibility and efficiency for interurban services

At FIAA 2026, the Setra S 515 LE hybrid represents the MultiClass range for interurban and regional services as well as routes with frequent stops. The Setra MultiClass LE family is designed to cover a broad range of applications, from conventional scheduled services and school transport to shuttle services, suburban services, employee transport and regional route.

Under its Low Entry concept, the MultiClass LE combines the advantages of two worlds: the easy access of a low-floor bus with the ride comfort of an interurban vehicle. The range is available in different lengths, from 10.51 to 14.52 metres, with two- and three-axle versions, allowing the vehicle to be adapted to a wide variety of capacity, route and operating requirements.

In the Setra S 515 LE hybrid, the low-entry design enables passengers to board quickly and comfortably at the front of the vehicle. The passenger compartment features a continuous low floor up to the area ahead of the rear axle, while three low steps at the rear lead to the raised section. This architecture provides easy access in the areas with the highest passenger turnover while maintaining the level of comfort required for interurban journeys.

With this combination, the S 515 LE hybrid provides a well-balanced solution for operators requiring functionality, capacity, accessibility and efficiency in day-to-day operation, without compromising the travel comfort characteristic of Setra.

A versatile interior for different requirements

Versatility is one of the key features of the Setra MultiClass LE range. The passenger compartment allows for different configurations of doors, platforms, seats and access areas, enabling the vehicle to be adapted to a wide variety of operating profiles.

The interior combines a practical approach with a carefully designed atmosphere. Partitions, side-wall panelling, floor finishes and the various seating options allow the vehicle to be configured both for services with high passenger turnover and for longer interurban journeys. This flexibility is particularly relevant for operators requiring a vehicle capable of covering diverse types of service within the same fleet.

The S 515 LE hybrid prepared for FIAA 2026 is equipped with Setra Passage seats, providing 39 passenger seats, two folding seats and one space for a passenger with reduced mobility. It also features two ramps at entrance 2 and EvoCool Basic air conditioning, reinforcing its suitability for services where accessibility and functionality are key priorities.

Driver’s workplace and assistance systems

The MultiClass LE concept offers different driver’s workplace options, ranging from configurations designed for urban services to more interurban-focused solutions. The S 515 LE hybrid on display at FIAA 2026 is equipped with the Cockpit City, which is well suited to applications with frequent stops and intensive daily operation.

Safety forms part of the vehicle’s integrated approach. According to the technical specification of the vehicle, the S 515 LE hybrid includes systems such as Preventive Brake Assist 2, Lane Assist, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Attention Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, MirrorCam in place of conventional exterior mirrors and a 360° camera system. These assistance systems help improve visibility, support the driver and enhance safety in interurban and regional operating environments.

Hybrid technology for more efficient operation

Efficiency is another key strength of the Setra S 515 LE hybrid. The vehicle presented at FIAA 2026 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz OM 936 Euro VI E six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 7.7 litres, delivering 220 kW and maximum torque of 1,200 Nm. Power is transmitted via a ZF Ecolife 2 transmission.

The 48-volt hybrid system incorporates a 16 kW electric motor that recovers energy during deceleration and braking. This energy is stored and subsequently used to support the combustion engine during periods of higher demand, such as pulling away or accelerating. In this way, the system helps improve efficiency in services with frequent stops without changing the vehicle’s normal operating procedures.

Setra S 515 HD: versatility, comfort and safety in the ComfortClass range

The Setra ComfortClass range represents a versatile coach concept developed to meet the highest requirements in terms of profitability, safety and flexibility for tourist and charter services as well as medium- and long-distance routes. Within this family, the Setra S 515 HD embodies the characteristic balance of the ComfortClass: passenger comfort, an advanced driver’s workplace, operational efficiency and an elevated level of safety.

The ComfortClass HD range comprises six high-deck models, from the compact S 511 HD, approximately 10.5 metres long, to the S 519 HD, at almost 15 metres. This broad range enables operators to select the most suitable solution according to the required capacity, type of service and operating profile.

At FIAA 2026, the Setra S 515 HD represents this model family at the Daimler Buses España stand. It is a versatile coach suitable for tourist and charter services as well as medium- and long-distance routes, combining a distinctly premium appearance with a concept focused on efficiency and everyday operation.

Setra design: unmistakable identity and premium presence

The design of the ComfortClass reflects Setra’s current identity. The front features the brand’s characteristic Setra family face, with the three-dimensional Setra emblem in chrome finish on a high-gloss black background, together with the Kässbohrer badge, a reminder of the brand’s origins and tradition.

On the sides, the character element bearing the Setra name reinforces the vehicle’s visual identity. The rear also retains a distinctive appearance, with sharply defined taillights and a light signature that underlines the coach’s presence. The result is an elegant and functional design with a personality clearly associated with the premium segment.

Safety and driver assistance

Safety is one of the pillars of the ComfortClass. The range features latest-generation assistance systems designed to support the driver, improve awareness of the vehicle’s surroundings and help prevent accidents.

Systems available for the ComfortClass include Active Brake Assist 6, Sideguard Assist 2 with integrated lane-change assistance, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control ART, Lane Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and Attention Assist. These systems work together to warn of potential hazards, assist the driver and enhance safety both on the road and during manoeuvring or at low speeds.

The Setra S 515 HD prepared for FIAA 2026 features a comprehensive package of assistance and safety systems, including Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control ART with stop-and-go function, Lane Assist, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Attention Assist 2, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, LED headlamps, rain and light sensor, High Beam Assistant, MirrorCam and a 360° camera system.

Driver’s workplace, visibility and handling

The ComfortClass driver’s workplace is designed as a comfortable, safe and driver-focused working environment. Its ergonomics, visibility and control layout help reduce the driver’s workload and make driving easier on medium- and long-distance journeys.

All Setra ComfortClass models can optionally be equipped with MirrorCam in place of conventional exterior mirrors. Camera images are displayed on 15-inch monitors mounted inside the A-pillars. Superimposed guide lines help the driver estimate the rear end of the vehicle and the speed of approaching vehicles, as well as assist when returning to the lane after an overtaking manoeuvre. An additional camera and a second compact monitor provide a view of the vehicle’s front right-hand corner.

MirrorCam extends the driver’s field of vision, improves visibility in low-light conditions, reduces dirt accumulation and the risk of damage during manoeuvring, and contributes to improved aerodynamics thanks to a smaller frontal area.

The ComfortClass can also be equipped with systems designed to improve handling and safety, including Keyless Start, an electronic parking brake, High Beam Assistant and a 360° camera system, which provides a complete view of the vehicle’s surroundings.

Passenger comfort and on-board equipment

The Setra ComfortClass passenger compartment is designed to provide a comfortable and refined travel experience. The spacious interior, quality of the materials, lighting and configuration options allow the vehicle to be adapted to different service profiles.

The range offers numerous equipment options, finishes and seating configurations, enabling the vehicle to be tailored to each operator’s requirements. Available features include solutions such as the TopSky panoramic roof, 2+1 seating configurations, different textile or leather upholstery options and various interior layouts.

On-board entertainment is also part of the travel experience. The 21.5-inch monitors provide high-definition images and can be installed in either a fixed or folding position. The Coach Infotainment Series multimedia system provides DAB+ digital radio reception, Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration and an HDMI connection, with a central interface at the driver’s workplace.

The Setra S 515 HD displayed at FIAA 2026 is equipped with Setra Voyage Plus seats, 44 passenger seats, EvoCool air conditioning, 21.5-inch high-definition LCD monitors, a toilet and an on-board kitchenette.

Efficient and proven powertrain

The ComfortClass powertrain is based on widely proven Mercedes-Benz components. Depending on the model, the range can be equipped with Mercedes-Benz OM 470 six-cylinder in-line engines with a displacement of 10.7 litres and different output levels, as well as 12.8-litre OM 471 engines in the versions that require them.

The Setra S 515 HD prepared for FIAA 2026 is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz OM 470 Euro VI E engine delivering 315 kW and maximum torque of 2,100 Nm at 1,100 rpm. Power transmission is handled by the automated Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift transmission.

The vehicle also features Predictive Powertrain Control, which contributes to more efficient driving by anticipating the route ahead and adapting the gearshift and speed strategy according to the topography.

Setra S 531 DT: TopClass in double-decker format

E The Setra S 531 DT brings the TopClass concept to the double-decker format. As a stand-alone model within the range, it combines high passenger capacity with the comfort, safety and ride quality characteristic of Setra. It is particularly well suited to tourism services, long-distance routes and applications where capacity, flexibility and the on-board experience are key factors.

The Setra double-decker stands out for its efficiency, its versatility in terms of configuration and its distinctive design. Its architecture allows it to meet a wide variety of requirements, from tourist travel and long-distance services to intercity routes and special configurations, while always retaining a distinctly premium presence.

Efficiency: outstanding aerodynamics

The Setra S 531 DT has been developed with particular attention to aerodynamics. Airflow is channelled around the highly curved windscreens and large radii at the front edges, while at the rear it is directed by recesses and aerodynamic deflectors.

Optimisation extends to even the smallest details, such as the windscreen wiper on the upper deck, which remains in a vertical position when at rest — a solution inspired by motorsport. The result is a drag coefficient of cw = 0.35, a benchmark value in its segment and one of the factors contributing to reduced fuel consumption. Automatic body lowering at higher speeds is also included as standard.

The vehicle can also be equipped with MirrorCam in place of conventional exterior mirrors. Images from the cameras are transmitted to 15-inch monitors mounted inside the A-pillars. Superimposed guide lines help the driver estimate the rear end of the vehicle, the speed of approaching vehicles and the right moment to return to the lane after overtaking. An additional camera and a second monitor provide a view of the front right-hand corner of the vehicle.

Comfort: bright interior, comfortable stairways and toilet

Thanks to the generous amount of natural light and its modern design, the bright Setra interior conveys a strong sense of spaciousness. Uniform two-tone steps with individual lighting, platforms and continuous handrails enhance safety when boarding and alighting. The washroom also deserves special mention. Its elements are arranged diagonally to make optimum use of the available space.

Safety: latest assistance systems as standard

The Setra S 531 DT is equipped as standard with the latest safety and assistance systems, including Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA 6), which detects moving or stationary pedestrians and cyclists in front of the vehicle and can automatically initiate emergency braking, and Sideguard Assist 2 with integrated Lane Change Assist.

Standard equipment also includes Frontguard Assist for the area directly in front of the vehicle; Traffic Sign Assist, which warns the driver when the permitted speed is exceeded; Adaptive Cruise Control (ART); Lane Assist (SPA); the Tyre Pressure Monitoring system (TPM); Attention Assist (AtAs); and an interface for the use of alcohol testers at the driver’s workplace.

Design: a distinctive appearance from front to rear

A Setra is a coach like no other, as the striking appearance of the double-decker clearly demonstrates. The new brand face is particularly eye-catching. Its centrepiece is the high-gloss black front panel framed by chrome inserts. The bold, three-dimensional brand emblem is also chrome-plated, while the housing of the new headlamps is finished in black chrome.

On the side, the double-decker features a three-dimensional character element with the Setra name integrated into it. The large, glazed area is characterised by a distinctive counter-sweep around the rear staircase. Framed in aluminium, it adds dynamism to the vehicle.

Below the rear window, the chrome trim bearing the TopClass brand lettering stands out. Together with the new tail lights, it provides the perfect finishing touch to a coach with a commanding presence.
