From Berlin to Tallinn: 2000 kilometres with the Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus

The S 531 DT is the new flagship travelling coach from Setra, Daimler Buses' premium brand. In order to give omnibus trade publications the opportunity to put the new double-decker bus equipped as a touring coach to the acid test, the "Test Drive Northeast Europe" will be taking place from 11 to 16 March 2019. For five days, journalists can take to the wheel and experience the Setra S 531 DT's travelling comfort on the route from Berlin to Tallinn.

Equipped with Sideguard Assist and Active Brake Assist 4 for the first time

The Setra S 531 DT is setting new standards with its assistance systems: The double-decker bus is optionally equipped with Sideguard Assist and with the emergency braking assistance system Active Brake Assist 4 with person recognition as a standard – an enormous step forward for the protection of the most vulnerable road users. As a standard, there are the new LED main headlamps and a fire extinguishing system in the engine compartment.

Reduced fuel consumption due to optimised aerodynamics

With an air drag coefficient of Cd = 0.35, the Setra S 531 DT occupies the top position in its category. This has been achieved by a whole range of aerodynamic optimisations. And also, due to its perfectly tuned powertrain, the new double-decker bus is quiet and economical on the road. The centrepiece is its powerful 12.8-litre OM 471 engine with an output of 375 kW (510 hp).

Excellent design: a distinctive exterior and interior

The new S 531 DT's exterior adds its own distinctive touches to the TopClass 500 model range. These include two seamlessly dove-tailed windscreen panels, as well as a new version of the brand-typical "La Linea" aluminium trim element. The interior has also been designed to reflect Setra's brand claim, "Sign of Excellence", down to the very smallest detail. With the colours dark evogrey, carbon red and composition black among others, the test vehicle underscores its high value.

Maximum comfort: high-quality equipment, flexible upgrading options

All the materials and colours as well as the use of space in the S 531 DT convey a sense of harmony and comfort to the passengers at all times during their journey. This begins with the newly designed staircases leading to the upper deck and continues with the "Setra Voyage Plus" seats right up to the newly designed bow in the upper deck. Also new are the washroom and the fragrancing system. Furthermore, bus companies will also appreciate the versatility of the double-decker bus. Its lower deck can be equipped for use both as a coach for longer tours and in bus services on shorter inter-urban routes.
