Stuttgart/Vienna – Österreichische Postbus AG has commissioned 48 Mercedes‑Benz Intouro L vehicles. The three-axle inter-city buses, which are just under 15 meters long, are used in the provinces of Salzburg (15 vehicles) and in Styria (33 buses).

Intouro: Economical all-rounder across the (inter-city) board

It takes schoolchildren to school, employees to their workplace, vacationers to their destination, travelers with luggage to the airport, senior citizens or parents with baby carriages to the shopping center, to the doctor or to the authorities, or the bowling club on a day out. The Mercedes-Benz Intouro high-floor inter-city bus, with its numerous variants, is an all-rounder that is as versatile as it is economical on (inter-city) routes for use 365 days a year.

ÖBB Postbus has chosen the largest version of the series, the impressive 14.88 meter long Mercedes-Benz Intouro L with 65 seats. It is ideal for routes with high passenger volumes.

ÖBB Postbus equipment: Functional and comfortable

The buses are used on behalf of Salzburger Verkehrsverbund and Steiermärkischer Verkehrsverbund. The configuration of the two batches differs only slightly. ÖBB Postbus is focusing on a high level of passenger and driver comfort in every respect.

In addition to the striking paintwork, the elegant, integral exterior mirrors are particularly noteworthy for inter-city buses, which are typically practical and functional by nature. A lift at the wide, double-wing rear door can assist passengers with impaired mobility. A dedicated area for baby carriages or wheelchairs is provided inside on the left in the direction of travel. Wheelchairs can be quickly and securely fixed in place with the practical, new mushroom head connection.

In addition to the powerful blower heating, double-glazed side windows, electrically operated roof hatches, and the EvoCool Basic roof-mounted air-conditioning system ensure a pleasant ride. It has active filters with antiviral functionality. Comfortable floor covering, needlefelt side wall trim, luggage shelves and, above all, the seating all help to make long inter-city journeys a pleasant experience. Mercedes-Benz Travel Star Eco passenger seats are manufactured in-house. Two TFT monitors with a generous 29-inch screen diagonal provide onboard infotainment.

Drivers are seated in an air-conditioned cab behind a door with a protective screen that runs the full width of the door. They also benefit from an air-conditioned seat and components such as a heated windshield or video surveillance at entrance two. A practical tip: Drivers can also use the reversing camera during forward travel by switching it on continuously, so they are always informed about what is happening directly behind the vehicle.

The combination of the efficient Mercedes-Benz OM 470 engine with 290 kW (394 hp) and the ZF Ecolife 2 six-speed automatic transmission in conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz RO 440 bus axle is responsible for propulsion throughout.

ÖBB Postbus uses the transmission of vehicle data by standard Bus Data Center. The company goes one step further and integrates vehicle and diagnostic data into its own fleet management systems with the Daimler Buses Cloud. This results in more efficient operational management and remote technical support for drivers.

More than 600 buses with the signature star in ten years for ÖBB Postbus

In total, ÖBB Postbus has added more than 600 Mercedes-Benz buses to its fleets over the past ten years. With almost 2,100 of its own buses and other vehicles from subsidiaries and subcontractors, Austria's largest bus company operates the majority of the inter-city bus network extending into the neighboring Czech Republic.

Together, all buses cover 140 million vehicle kilometers annually on almost 30,000 routes with almost 700 inter-city routes and around 20,000 stops. This is how ÖBB Postbus takes around 131 million travelers to their destination each year, of which approximately 70 percent are schoolchildren. Headquartered in Vienna, this company connects more than 1,700 municipalities throughout Austria to the route network. In more than one-third of vehicle operations, buses are the only means of public transportation in the region. ÖBB Postbus is thus an essential pillar when it comes to providing public services in rural areas.
