Leinfelden‑Echterdingen / Wognum (Netherlands) – Simon Loos is consistently pressing ahead with the expansion of its electric fleet: the Dutch logistics service provider has once again placed a major order with Mercedes‑Benz Trucks, purchasing 75 Mercedes‑Benz eActros 600 trucks. This brings the total number of electric trucks in the company’s fleet to 210 vehicles. With this step, Simon Loos operates the largest electric truck fleet in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe.
The company is thus demonstrating that electric transport is becoming a permanent and increasingly important element of its day‑to‑day operations. The initial order of 75 eActros 600 units placed in autumn 2024 has exceeded all expectations, reports Wim Roks, Fleet Manager at Simon Loos. “Even while the first vehicles were being delivered, we began evaluating them in real‑world operations.”
The newly ordered 75 eActros 600 trucks will be deployed in food distribution, including several three‑axle vehicles intended for network transport operations and beverage logistics.
Always on the move
Around two‑thirds of the first order has already been delivered. As soon as the remaining vehicles enter service, delivery of the second tranche of additional eActros 600 trucks will commence seamlessly. “We want to keep moving forward – not stand still,” Roks emphasizes. The follow‑up order underlines the success of the eActros 600 in daily operations and Simon Loos’ clear strategy to rapidly expand its electric fleet.
Eric Brok, CEO of Daimler Truck Nederland B.V., adds: “The pace of development is impressive. As early as 2021, Simon Loos became the first company in Europe to put the first‑generation eActros 300 into operation. By the end of this year, a total of 150 eActros 600 trucks will be on the road in its fleet. The acceptance of electric transport depends heavily on the practical experience gained by such pioneers. Their decision to opt for the eActros 600 on this scale demonstrates just how well proven the vehicle already is in everyday use. The close cooperation between Simon Loos, its contractual partner GomesTrucks and Daimler Truck – combined with a shared determination to succeed – is a real asset. The renewed trust that has emerged from this partnership provides an excellent basis for many further positive developments.”
