Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Regensburg – The handover of eight eCitaro G buses to “das Stadtwerk.Mobilität” took place yesterday in the presence of Regensburg’s Mayor Gertrud Maltz‑Schwarzfischer; Manfred Koller, Managing Director of “das Stadtwerk.Regensburg”; Sandra Schönherr, Operations Manager at “das Stadtwerk.Mobilität”; as well as Daimler Buses representatives Markus Fischer, Head of Public Transport Sales Germany, and Andre Martin, Public Transport Sales Germany. Also invited were members of the supervisory and workers’ councils of “das Stadtwerk.Regensburg”, along with representatives of the Government of the Upper Palatinate, which financially supported the acquisition. At the same time as the official key handover for the eight eCitaro G buses, a 3,500 m² bus depot—equipped for charging a total of 53 electric buses—was inaugurated. In the second half of the year, Daimler Buses will deliver an additional 15 eCitaro G buses to “das Stadtwerk.Mobilität”.
The eight new 18.13‑meter eCitaro G buses expand Regensburg’s eCitaro fleet to a total of 20 vehicles. Since 2021, twelve 12.14‑meter eCitaro solo buses have already been in service. The transport company thus draws on many years of experience with electric vehicles from Daimler Buses.
Sandra Schönherr, Operations Manager at “das Stadtwerk.Mobilität”, notes: "In previous years, we tested electric buses from various manufacturers. In the end, we were convinced by the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro due to its comfortable interior space and its long range."
Mirko Sgodda, Head of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services at Daimler Buses: "We are pleased to provide a technologically advanced electric bus that is optimally tailored to Regensburg’s mobility needs. We thank you for the trust placed in us."
New eCitaro G buses for Regensburg
The blue‑and‑white eCitaro G buses feature innovative drive and energy technologies, maximum safety, and a comfortable interior design. Seven high‑voltage battery packs of the latest NMC3 generation, with a combined energy capacity of 688 kWh, provide the three‑door articulated bus with a long range. The electrically driven middle and rear axles are precisely matched to the vehicle concept, output, and traction requirements. Each system delivers 282 kW of power. The buses are designed for plug‑in depot charging and are equipped with two charging sockets: one on the right and one on the left above the front wheel.
All eight fully electric articulated city buses comply with the mandatory EU “General Safety Regulation.” Their safety equipment includes the latest systems such as Preventive Brake Assist 2, Sideguard Assist 2, traffic sign assist, attention assist, Frontguard Assist, and a rear‑view camera. The interior features 45 blue seats branded with the “das Stadtwerk.Mobilität” logo. Each eCitaro G offers a total passenger capacity of 110 people. A ramp is available for passengers with limited mobility.
