Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Hannover – 130 years of pioneering spirit means more than celebrating the past. It also offers an opportunity to look ahead and explore the ideas that could shape the next era of transportation. As part of its anniversary initiative “130 Years of Forward”, Daimler Truck is presenting “Global Design Inspiration”, a collection of visionary design studies developed by its global design centers. The projects showcase different perspectives on the future of transportation and mobility, highlighting that the future is not defined by a single prediction but by a wide range of ideas, requirements and viewpoints.

The concepts presented are intentionally conceived as visions, studies and creative thought starters. They are not intended as previews of future products or development programs. Instead, they are designed to encourage discussion about the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s mobility.

The initiative brings together digital contributions from different Daimler Truck brands and regions around the world. It combines perspectives from emerging designers and experienced professionals with design studies from the company’s international design centers. It also provides insights into the creative process, from the first sketch to animated and highly realistic visions. Together, these contributions highlight the value of creative thinking across brands, disciplines and generations.

The Mercedes-Benz Trucks design study is guided by the principle of “Make more with less.” In this concept, an aspiring designer explores how a reduced number of components, multifunctional elements and a high degree of modularity could contribute to greater resource efficiency in the future. The idea is to create more value with fewer materials while opening up new approaches to sustainable vehicle design.

The Freightliner study focuses on autonomous transportation solutions and the interaction between vehicles and robotics. The design team in Portland envisions a future in which autonomous systems take over maintenance and service tasks, creating new opportunities for uptime and efficiency in freight transport.

As part of a master’s thesis project, the Setra brand developed “Miyanoura”, a Zeppelin-inspired airship concept representing a new way of traveling. At its core are the ideas of slowing down, enhancing comfort and making the travel experience itself the destination. The vision challenges today’s perception of mobility as purely functional and places greater emphasis on well-being, tranquility and conscious travel.

The BharatBenz study “VertiHaul” looks ahead to logistics in the year 2070. Developed by an emerging designer, the concept explores a world in which cities and industrial facilities are increasingly organized vertically. It demonstrates how goods could be transported through multidimensional infrastructures in the future and examines the implications this may have for next-generation logistics.

With “Global Design Inspiration”, Daimler Truck underlines its ambition to actively help shape the future of transportation. The initiative connects the company’s long-standing innovative strength with a clear focus on what lies ahead. It stands for curiosity, creativity and the courage to explore new paths.

At the same time, the initiative highlights Daimler Truck’s attractiveness as an employer for creative talent. It demonstrates how emerging designers and experienced experts can work together on future challenges and develop ideas that reach far beyond existing products.
