Consequently, the development of our company-owned sales network, now also with a new, state-of-the-art location near Munich, is a crucial part of our strategy. We will continue to invest in our own retail."
Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Aschheim – Just under a year and a half after the ground-breaking ceremony, Daimler Truck officially opened the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Center Munich Aschheim today.
With the opening, the company is sending a strong signal for the future of transportation and the service business: The new location for trucks, buses, and vans is tailor-made for the requirements of commercial and fleet customers in the Munich metropolitan region and has been designed from the outset for commercial vehicles powered by alternative drive technologies.
Covering a site area of around 44,500 square meters in Aschheim near Munich, the center will offer sales and service for Mercedes-Benz and FUSO trucks, as well as service for Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses and Mercedes-Benz vans. The new commercial vehicle center on Klausnerstraße will also be a central point of contact for the financial services business of Daimler Truck Financial Services Deutschland (DTFSD). Commercial and fleet customers will find tailor-made offers for truck hire purchase or leasing, including service contracts and insurance. Solutions for the charging infrastructure will also be offered. Together with CharterWay GmbH, the location offers a flexible mobility concept with rental and financing solutions from a single source.
Achim Puchert, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks: "Consistent customer focus is crucial to the success of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Our own sales organization plays a key role in this. Consequently, the development of our company-owned sales network, now also with a new, state-of-the-art location near Munich, is a crucial part of our strategy. We will continue to invest in our own retail."
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks: "The truck business is very complex, consultation-intensive, and characterized by strong relationships between us and our customers. Through our group-owned dealerships and locations, we are in close contact with them and can continuously develop our products and services. We are therefore firmly convinced that our own retail locations will continue to be critical to the success of our business in the future. In the past two years alone, we have opened seven new commercial vehicle centers in Europe, two of them in Germany."
Volker Hüntrup, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Own Retail, Europe: "In addition to acquisitions in our core European markets, such as in Trappes west of Paris, we are also continuing to invest in Germany. In May, we celebrated the expansion of our site in Würzburg with our customers, and we are currently working on expanding the commercial vehicle center in Hamburg. Furthermore, the expansion of our manufacturer-owned sales network is continuing. We recently decided to build a new workshop in Wörth am Rhein, very close to our plant, and will soon begin new construction projects in Koblenz and Nuremberg, while also examining further investment options."
Mirko Sgodda, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Customer Services at Daimler Buses: "The new commercial vehicle center in Aschheim is a significant milestone — for Daimler Truck, for Daimler Buses, and above all for our customers. By integrating bus services, we are strengthening our Europe-wide service network and setting new standards in the maintenance and repair of vehicles with electric drive systems."
New building ready for vehicles with alternative drive technologies
From the outset, the new building has been excellently prepared for the future of transportation: for example, high-voltage workstations have been set up in the 3,200 square meter workshop area to service battery-electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and eEconic trucks, the FUSO eCanter, and the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city bus.
A total of 25 parking spaces are available for trucks, buses, and vans, with the option of expanding to nine additional spaces.
In addition, a state-of-the-art, variably adaptable workstation has been created in Aschheim for working on vehicle roofs – on truck cabs or bus roofs. This so-called roof workstation is particularly relevant for the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric city bus, as it carries its batteries on the roof.
Other highlights of the new building include: repair and accident service with frame straightening technology, semi-trailer and trailer bodywork service, test center for general inspections, emissions testing and other tests, and parts and accessories sales.
The maintenance and repair of vehicles with hydrogen-based drive technologies was also considered from the outset at the Aschheim site: the workshop has a fully equipped gas workstation with gas sensors and a specific exhaust air system that already meets the requirements for hydrogen. The requirements for releasing hydrogen at a so-called evaluation site in front of the workshop and for refueling after a workshop visit will be installed by the end of 2025.
Charging infrastructure for customers and employees
Of course, sufficient electric charging stations have also been planned at the site: a total of six charging stations with twelve charging points for employee and customer cars, and four charging stations with eight charging points and charging capacities of up to 400 kilowatts for trucks and buses, where customer vehicles can be charged after leaving the service center and CharterWay rental vehicles can be charged.
Modern workshop, modern workplaces
The new commercial vehicle center has been designed according to the latest standards. It offers waiting areas for customers, and the routes for the around 100 employees have been kept as short as possible. Wherever possible, work processes have been digitized.
The workshop is equipped with two roller test benches for brake tests, a tachograph test bench, a bodywork department, and four overhead cranes, e.g., for lifting engines and transmissions. Thanks to a truck lift system, a complete truck-trailer combination can be lifted to ergonomically optimize work on wheels and brakes, for example. With two workshop vehicles, the Aschheim site participates in the mobile breakdown service in and around Munich.
Sustainability at the site
To supply energy to the site, which has two-story buildings and a gross floor area of around 3,850 square meters, a photovoltaic system with 754 modules was installed, which can generate more than the site's energy requirements with around 450 megawatts peak (MWp).
Ideal location in Aschheim for new commercial vehicle center
The location directly on the A99 at the Kirchheim junction near Munich provides optimal connections to the existing infrastructure—both for long-distance traffic and for distribution traffic to the city center. The proximity to the city center also means short distances for city bus customers.
