Mannheim - Daimler Truck has received a special prize in the "Das hat Potenzial!” “SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT" competition. The company has received the prize for particularly successful STEM projects and offerings for girls and young women. The nationwide SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT network honored the Daimler Truck location in Mannheim for its outstanding commitment to career orientation for girls and young women. The award was presented by State Secretary Michael Kellner at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, which sponsors the competition.
Award for Daimler Truck, Mannheim location
With the Girls' Tec Days, the company gives girls and young women an insight into the technical world of careers and training at Daimler Truck and Daimler Buses at the Mannheim site. They can get to know all the technical apprenticeships and exchange ideas with female trainees and colleagues from the various technical areas. This complements Daimler Truck's wide range of career orientation and student internship opportunities.
The jury of the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT award appreciates the commitment: "The digital information offer about education and career opportunities for young people is constantly growing - but the best way for them to find out which path really suits them is in practice. That's why there needs to be greater cooperation between schools and business. We are therefore particularly pleased to see so many award winners who are doing a really good job at precisely this interface. That makes us hopeful and positive for the future."
About the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT Award "Das hat Potenzial!"
SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT is awarding the prize, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, for the eleventh time. For the first time, there is also a special prize that honors particularly successful STEM projects and offerings for girls and young women. A jury made up of representatives from business, schools and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection selected the winners in advance.
About the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT network
The SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT network stands for partnership-based cooperation between schools and business - regionally anchored, networked nationwide. It brings schools and companies together so that young people can successfully make the transition to the world of work and companies can secure the next generation of employees. The work is supported by a broad voluntary commitment, which is supported by full-time offices at state and national level. At the federal level, the network is supported by the Confederation of German Employers' Associations and the Institute of German Business, while at the state level it is supported by umbrella organisations and employers' educational organisations in partnership with ministries.
Daimler Truck in Mannheim
The Mannheim plant was founded in 1908 in Mannheim-Waldhof on the Luzenberg. More than 8,100 employees produce engines and related components for commercial vehicles as well as city buses at the site, including the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro already since 2018. It is also Daimler Truck's center of excellence for battery technologies and high-voltage systems, which contributes significantly to the series production of the electrified product portfolio. In the coming months, a pilot line for the production of battery cells and for the assembly of batteries will be built at the Mannheim location. The foundry at the plant is one of the world's leading manufacturers of iron vehicle castings. In addition, engines for commercial vehicles and passenger cars are remanufactured in the so-called European centre for exchange engine production. Training and securing young talent are also equally important for the Mannheim location: With over 100 years of experience, young people are trained at the location - a total of over 11,000 young people have completed their training here.
