Leinfelden-Echterdingen / Pristina (Kosovo) – Daimler Truck Defence has handed over the first twelve Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 5000 vehicles to the Kosovo Security Force (KSF). The vehicles are part of a three-year contract signed in February 2026 between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kosovo and Daimler Truck to modernize the country's military mobility capabilities.
The handover ceremony took place in Pristina in the presence of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Minister of Defence Ejup Maqedonci, the German Ambassador to Kosovo, Rainer Rudolph, as well as representatives from government, industry, and the armed forces.
The contract includes the delivery of tactical military vehicles and provides the option to procure additional vehicles in the low three-digit range. With the delivery of the first vehicles, implementation of the program to enhance the mobility, operational readiness, and interoperability of the KSF is now underway.
The delivered Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 5000 vehicles will be used for transport, logistics, and supply missions. Offering a payload capacity of up to five tons or seating for up to twelve soldiers, these highly capable off-road vehicles are suited for demanding operational conditions in Kosovo.
Daniel Zittel, Chief Sales Officer Daimler Truck Defence: “The handover of the first vehicles marks an important milestone in our cooperation with the KSF. It reflects the trust placed in the capabilities of our vehicles and supports the continued modernization efforts of Kosovo’s armed forces. The Unimog has proven itself worldwide under the most demanding conditions and will make a valuable contribution to the mobility and operational readiness of the KSF.”
Concurrent with the vehicle handover, the 3rd German-Kosovar Economic Forum took place in Pristina and was attended by representatives of Daimler Truck Defence. The forum brings together government and business leaders to foster dialogue and strengthen economic relations between Germany and Kosovo.
