- Additional charging points planned at high‑traffic tourist destinations across Europe
Leinfelden‑Echterdingen / Munich – Daimler Buses continues to expand its own charging network for electric buses: By the end of 2026, four public charging stations are scheduled to be installed at the Central Bus Station (ZOB) in Munich. To this end, the company has signed an agreement with Wealthcap, the real‑asset and investment manager representing the owner of the Munich ZOB. Daimler Buses had already announced its first public e‑bus charging stations in October 2025 as part of a pilot project with the city of Cologne. The objective is to establish further charging points at highly frequented tourist hotspots across Europe. Implementation will be carried out by Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Buses.
Steffen Germ, CEO of Daimler Buses Solutions, stated: “E‑buses at the Munich ZOB can charge exactly where they already stop. Timetables remain unchanged, and charging time integrates seamlessly into regular dwell time. This makes deploying fully electric buses in long‑distance and intercity transportation significantly easier.”
Daimler Buses aims to support the development of public charging infrastructure for its first electric intercity bus, the Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro, by building its own charging stations. In addition to connecting urban and rural areas, the vehicle is also suitable for shorter trips — currently the most practical application scenario for e‑buses outside urban public transport. From Daimler Buses’ perspective, the expansion of the necessary public charging infrastructure is progressing too slowly. Its own charging stations are intended to provide an important impulse. The Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro has been available for order since spring 2025, and the first customer vehicles will be delivered in the second half of 2026.
Fast Charging During Regular Dwell Times
The planned charging stations at Munich ZOB will offer power levels of up to 600 kW, enabling very rapid charging. Bus operators will be able to charge their e‑buses — regardless of brand — using green electricity. Regular dwell times at the bus station, such as during passenger boarding and disembarking, ticket checks, or baggage handling, can also be used to recharge the batteries. As a result, additional charging breaks or detours for bus operators become unnecessary.
A total of four charging stations are planned, with two scheduled for completion during 2026. Construction activities in the second quarter of 2026 will include civil engineering work, installation of high‑voltage cables, transformer installation, and foundation work for the charging stations. Commissioning is planned for later in 2026.
Public Charging Infrastructure from a Single Source
Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH collaborates closely with experienced partners for construction measures. The subsidiary will finance the charging stations and handle operations itself. Refinancing will be achieved through electricity sales. Following commissioning, Daimler Buses Solutions will assume maintenance and technical operations with its own service team. Property owners thus benefit from turnkey charging infrastructure — without requiring their own investments or significant effort.

About the Daimler Buses E‑Roadmap
Daimler Buses has a clear e‑roadmap for electrifying its vehicles across all segments. In line with Daimler Truck’s dual‑track strategy, Daimler Buses is pursuing both battery‑electric and hydrogen‑based technologies. The fully battery‑electric Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro city bus has been in series production since 2018. Since 2023, the vehicle has also been offered with a hydrogen‑based fuel cell as a range extender. Starting in 2026, the battery‑electric Mercedes‑Benz eIntouro intercity bus is set to follow. Daimler Buses plans to add battery‑electric coaches by the end of the decade, with fuel‑cell coaches to enter series production thereafter. By 2030, the company aims to offer locally CO₂‑free models in every segment, initially focusing on core markets, particularly in Europe.
