Wörth am Rhein – The Universal-Motor-Gerät from Mercedes-Benz – known around the world as Unimog for over 75 years - can look back at a proud history. Whether to help fighting forest fires, as a camper van for travel enthusiasts or a trusty workhorse in municipal services, the Unimog boasts a wide range of uses and has a huge fanbase.
Unimog Club Gaggenau e.V. (UCG) is part of them, and has been keeping the fascination for the Unimog alive for 30 years. After more than 20 years, the club's Unimog U 4000 is getting a “brother” with a new Unimog U 5023 with crewcab.

30 years of Unimog-Club Gaggenau e.V. (UCG)
Unimog-Club Gaggenau e.V. (UCG), established in 1993, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and today unites over 8,000 Unimog and MBtrac friends in 49 countries. Since 1999, it has been one of 80 officially recognized Mercedes-Benz Classic brand clubs. The club gathers a wealth of information about the history, technology and uses of the various Unimog and MBtrac model series and shares this knowledge with its members. With so much enthusiasm, the idea and desire arose not just to focus on older models, but also to cater for current vehicles. So as to showcase and use the different Unimog generations – from its origins to today – at the many events, exhibitions, meetings and demonstrations, the club now has its own Unimog U 5023.
This vehicle from the all-terrain model series once again shows the close ties and strong affiliation of Mercedes-Benz Daimler Truck and its Unimog division, the Unimog Club and Unimog Museum. To this day, Unimog Club Gaggenau e.V., as part of the operating company and as a co-contributer and organizer of Mercedes-Benz events, has been actively involved in the running of the museum. Daimler Truck, as official sponsor, also plays a key role in supporting the museum.
Unimog U 5023
The Unimog is suitable for off-road operation and has portal axles and a torsionally flexible frame. In combination with the engageable all-wheel drive and the interaxle and differential locks in both axles, it guarantees the necessary traction and control even on difficult terrain. Thanks to its fording capability, it can cross waters up to 1.2 meters deep. With gross weights of 7.5 to 14.5 tonnes, the Unimog is suitable as a carrier vehicle for various types of bodies that make it ideal for reliable work deployment, as an off-road camper or as an expedition vehicle. When fitted with a crewcab, up to 7 people can be accommodated comfortably.
