Wayne Eyre was born in 1966 in Wadena, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Science as well as three master’s degrees and completed several advanced military leadership and staff training programs.

Wayne Eyre served for more than 40 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. Over the course of his career, he held numerous national and international leadership and command positions, including roles within the Canadian Armed Forces, NATO, and the United Nations. His deployments included assignments in Europe, Afghanistan, and the Asia‑Pacific region. In February 2021, he was appointed Chief of the Defence Staff, Canada’s highest military rank. In this role, he was responsible for the military command of the Armed Forces and served as military advisor to the Prime Minister and Cabinet until concluding his active military career in July 2024.

Since leaving active service, Wayne Eyre has been active as an author, speaker, advisor, and educator. He is a Senior Fellow and Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa.
